8 Frequently Asked Questions About Rejuran Injections
Like many other recent beauty trends from East Asia, people often wonder about the effectiveness of new aesthetic treatments like Rejuran injections. Are Rejuran injections the same as fillers? Does it hurt to have a Rejuran injection? How long does it take for one to see the results?
At AEON Medical and Aesthetic Centre, we answer these frequently asked questions about Rejuran injections.
1. What is Rejuran?
Rejuran is an anti-ageing and skin rejuvenation injectable treatment that was developed, manufactured, and popularised in South Korea. Rejuran is made out of highly compatible DNA fragments (polynucleotides) that help to improve the physiological condition of skin tissues. This is done by delivering the polynucleotides directly to the dermal layer of the skin via injection.
2. Is Rejuran the same as dermal fillers?
Rejuran is not the same as dermal fillers. It is an injectable substance that has breakthrough skin reparative and healing factors, which treat skin-deep damage. This includes irreversible skin problems like UV and oxidative stress damage. On the other hand, fillers are used to add volume and contour the face.
3. Is Rejuran made from salmon sperm?
Rejuran injections are made out of polynucleotides extracted from salmon sperm DNA. While this may seem shocking to some, salmon DNA is actually very similar to human DNA, so it is stable, safe, and highly compatible with human skin.
The DNA extracted undergoes rigorous purification and any protein that may cause immune reactions is removed. When injected into the skin, the polynucleotides help to stimulate cell repair and regeneration, which, in turn, improves and treats dehydrated skin and reduces laxity of skin.
4. How safe are Rejuran injections?
Rejuran injection is a medically tested and safe aesthetic procedure approved by the South Korean Ministry of Food and Drug Safety and the Singapore Health Sciences Authority. Studies have shown that Rejuran has anti-inflammatory and regenerative properties that does not cause any major side effects.
Individuals on blood-thinning medication should avoid the treatment as their skin is more prone to bleeding and bruising. Some minor side effects of Rejuran include mild pain and bruising.
5. Is getting a Rejuran injection painful?
Prior to the treatment session, a numbing cream is applied to reduce pain, but mild to moderate pain may still be experienced during the injection. Compared to other injectable treatments, Rejuran injection utilises a smaller needle, so the pain is minimised as much as possible. After the procedure, the pain relieves.
6. Is there any downtime from Rejuran treatments?
Post-treatment, one may experience redness and swelling that appear as small raised bumps on the injection sites. The bumps usually subside within 48 hours. During this period, stay indoors to avoid external damage from the sun, pollutants, and cosmetics.
7. How long does it take to see any results? Is there a need for repeated treatments?
Rejuran injection works by repairing and healing skin damage, so its results will not be as immediate as fillers. Typically, one can expect to see results after 3 to 4 treatments. For effective results, patients are recommended to do the treatments, each spaced four weeks apart. For maintenance afterwards, it is recommended to have one treatment every 6 to 12 months.
8. How much do Rejuran injections cost?
Rejuran Healer starts from S$888 per 2cc syringe, and usually 2 to 3 syringes are needed for the face and neck. To treat the area under the eyes, a thinner form of Rejuran called Rejuran-I is recommended and costs S$588 per 1cc syringe. Alternatively, for scarred areas with dense tissue and skin, a thicker form called Rejuran-S is typically used and costs S$588 per 1cc syringe.
